Giving Up a License
- Status after lapse: lapsed, becoming null and void (requiring new-applicant reapplication) if not cured within the 2-year licensure period
- Lapse consequences: A $150 penalty fee (in addition to the renewal fee) applies once a license lapses. Anyone practicing medicine while lapsed is deemed an illegal practitioner subject to criminal prosecution under 10 GCA ch. 12, section 12230.
- Reinstatement: If the physician cures the lapse (pays the $150 penalty plus renewal fee and meets renewal requirements) within the 2-year licensing period, the license continues. If not cured by the end of that 2-year period, the license becomes null and void and the physician must reapply for licensure as a brand-new applicant (no streamlined reinstatement path).
